March 2010 - Budget 2010

The IRC made a submission to HM Treasury in advance of the Budget 2010. The submission highlighted how the issues of Access to credit from banks and suppliers; changes to VAT; Employment costs; and Business Rates are impacting upon independent retailers.

October 2009 - Pre-Budget Report 2009

The IRC made a submission to HM Treasury in advance of the Pre-Budget Report 2009. The submission highlighted how planned increases inn VAT, Business Rates and the Employers' rate of National Insurance would be impacting upon independent retailers in the coming year.

September 2009 - Low Pay Commission

The IRC made a submission to the Low Pay Commission Consultation on the National Minimum Wage (NMW). The submission highlighted the impact of the recession on the independent retail sector and urged no increase in the NMW for 2010.

March 2009 - Budget 2009

The IRC made a submission to HM Treasury in advance of the Budget 2009. The submission highlighted how the issues of Access to credit from banks and suppliers; the VAT reduction and proposed increase in employers’ National Insurance (NI)
contributions announced in the 2008 Pre-Budget Report; Business rates, specifically the increase in Rates scheduled for April 2009, the Rate revaluation planned for 2010 and the Business Rate Supplements Bill; and the VAT registration threshold are impacting upon independent retailers.

The IRC made a submission to HM Treasury in advance of the Pre-Budget Report 2008. The submission highlighted how the issues of employment policies, business rates and tax, planning policy and crime would be impacting upon independent retailers in the coming year.

The IRC made a submission to the Department for Communities and Local Government's consultation on reforming Planning Policy Statement 6: Planning for Town Centres in October 2008. The submission highlighted the IRC's opposition to the removal of the 'Need Test' and made recommendations on the imposition of the new Impact Assessment Framework.
